About

The Potholes near Lake Kvitingen, also called Gjøgerlaugitn, are a truly unique, different kind of nature experience. The hike is family friendly and the destination exciting. The main description is from the south (Stavadalen/Reinli). For directions from the north (Tisleidalen), see alternative route.

From Bagn, drive to Reinli and continue towards Stavadalen and Nørdre Fjellstølen (toll road). Continue approx. 3 km from the toll station to Kavlan. There's a parking area on the right-hand side of the road (a kind of sideway that leads back to the road; GPS 32v 520016 6742751). Park here. 

Follow the forest track that exits from the inside of this bend (signed “Jettegryte”) on foot. You will pass by a gravel pit, and further down the road is closed with a chain (to prevent cars from going in). The route uphill in the forest is easy to follow and the last ­section is a clear path to Kvitingen, and then along the water towards Jettegrytene/Giant's kettles. A unique ­attraction for the entire family.

Alternative directions from the north / Tisleidalen:
Exit from road 51 towards Merket and take the toll road to the southern end of Lake Pardisfjorden. There, take to the right towards Kinn (signed). After 2,9 km, turn left. Parking is at the end of the road after another 500 m (GPS 32v 517890 6744148).
A small footpath signed "Jettegrytene" exits to the right and leads straight ahead over a meadow and into the forest. At an unmarked path crossing, keep to the right alongside the lake. Keep straight over a rocky part, and soon you stand at the "giant's kettles" of Kvitingen.
