About
Kjerringdalsrunden is a nice cycling round-trip in eastern Etnedal. All in all, it is not particularly demanding, but it has a solid accumulated elevation gain, with the start being continuously steep. Roughly half of the trip is on little trafficked farm roads (gravel), the other half is on sealed country roads. On route you can enjoy a great view towards the Synnfjell mountain massif, and you will pass the waterfall Juvfossen.
Difficulty: moderate-demanding, not suitable for children
Distance: approx. 37.5 km
Elevation gain: approx. 876 meters
Tour description:
Start at the Joker store in Etnedal and cycle south for approx. 200 m. Turn left uphill towards Øverlibygde. This ascend is quite steep for about 4 km. After this climb, the rest of the route is fairly easy cycling on undulating high country. From Garin/Gjørma, continue left towards Bakkobygda/Nystølåsen and enjoy a nice view towards Synnfjell.
At Åfetstølbruitn, the route continues north along the western bank of the River Åfeta to Elveseter. Here you keep left and enjoy the downhill run to the main road which you follow back to to the starting point. Approx. halfway between Rust and Flatøydegarden you pass the waterfall Juvfossen on the left.
Tip:
You can cycle Kjerringdalsrunden with start/end at Gamlestølen, which adds approx. 8.5 km return to the trip. In this case, you will start the circuit at Åfetstølbruitn.
