Drive on the E16 to Aurdal and exit uphill towards Danebu (toll road). 100 m before the exit towards Danebu Kongsgård there is a large parking lot. Park here and turn onto a road closed with a bar with garbage containers. After 300 m, ski onto the road that exits to the right. At the western end of Lake Fræningen you meet the ski track.
Follow the track to the right (south) along Fræningen and towards the Ividalen Valley (keep straight ahead in the crossing after approx. 500 m, where a track back to Danebu exits to the right). Over the hill Storstølshøgda you can enjoy a far view towards the mountains of Jotunheimen behind you. You now enter the Ividalen Valley, with a slight downhill run to Lake Ividalsvatnet. At its western end there’s a crossing. Turn right here, past Kringlestølen to the small pond Steintjednet. On a moor flat you pass the crossing towards Bjørgovarden (to the left). Keep right/straight ahead for 200 more meters. You can shorten down the trip by returning to Danebu here (approx. 8 km in total), but our round trip takes a turn to the left towards Kolsrudstølen here. It is 2.3 km in rolling, friendly terrain to the crossing at Kolsrudstølen. Here you turn right and finally start on the return journey. It’s 2.6 km to the next crossing at Grånholen, where the track splits: to the right to Storstølen and the main track to Danebu, and to the left via the lake Rudstøltjernet and past Aurdal Fjellpark. Both ways back to Danebu are about equally long.
