Smørkoll circuit is a popular, family friendly cross-country skiing trip in Beitostølen that follows groomed tracks. Length: 11.5 km; can be prolonged to 17 km or shortened to approx. 6 km. 

Follow road 51 to Beitostølen and turn left in the centre towards Beito. After 600 m there’s a large parking lot on the right-hand side. The tour starts here.

Take the track Green no. 1 to the right uphill through the birch forest. In the first crossing after 1.5 km, you continue to follow Green 1, but you will later return on the other track, Blue 2. The next crossing is just a kilometer ahead, and here you follow the track Blue no. 2. After yet another kilometer, you reach the open country. In the crossing here you turn right uphill towards Blue 3. You can already see the next crossing 500 m ahead. Here, turn left onto Blue 7. You can now enjoy a wide view and a slight downhill run towards the summer farming area of Smørkoll, just below the hill with the same name. Here, the trails makes a 90 degrees turn to the left. If you wish to prolong the trip by an extra 5.7 km, you follow Blue track 4, but we continue along Blue 7 until the next crossing which is about 1 km ahead (here, the Blue 4 joins back from the right). Just before the crossing there is a shelter hut you can warm up in or just take a break. Take the left track at the crossing, and after 600 m you are back on track Blue 2 again. Follow it to the right. After 2 km you return onto Green 1 which you follow to the right downhill back to the parking lot.

If the winds are strong or you have smaller children in your party, you can turn left in the 3rd crossing and continue the loop along Green 2. This shortens the trip with approx. 5,7 km.

Be aware! Parts of this trip cross open, flat country and can be exposed to wind and weather.
