About

This circuit in North-Etnedal makes a moderate daytrip for less experienced cyclists. The tour will take you through four summer farm areas in East-Valdres, partly over the tree line with far vistas.

Tour description:
Start from the old convenience store or Valdres Høyfjellshotell in Steinsetbygda. The first 2 km uphill to Dalen are steep, but from there on you can enjoy a nice, slightly undulating terrain. Turn right onto Svarthamarvegen until Søre Bjørnhovd where you turn right again towards Tangen. After a little bit more than 500 m, turn left and cycle downhill into the valley bottom, where you cross River Etna on a bridge before climbing uphill again towards Nysetstølen. Continue past Smiugardsbygde until you meet the sealed road near Stølen. Turn right and follow it to the main road through Etnedal, which you follow to the right, towards Fagernes, back to the start at Steinsetbygda. The last kilometers lead along Lake Steinsetfjorden and through the village.

Tips:
* The trip can also be cycled from Nythun, adding 6 km return and approx. 160 m in elevation gain at the end. Instead of running downhill to Lake Steinsetfjorden you can choose to cycle Svarthamarvegen via Grøslia to Dalen in the start which will save you the climb from the lake back up onto the high plateau. 
* At the end of the tour, you can choose to cycle along the southern shore of Lake Steinsetfjorden.
* Goaren is an easy hike from Tangen (ca. 1.7 km per way).
