There's good food and then there are regional food treasures, carrying protected designations of origin. In Norway, 35 products are labelled with a protected designation of origin through Stiftelsen Norsk Mat.
This ensures that Norwegian food treasures that are linked to specific regions or traditions are safeguarded and get the recognition they deserve. The Norwegian certification scheme is the same as otherwise in Europe, ensuring that Norwegian products range just as high as i.e. Roquefort, Champagne and Prosciutto di Parma.
In Valdres, four products have received this distinction: Kurv frå Valdres, Rakfisk fra Valdres, Rein fra Jotunheimen and Setersmør/Stølssmør.
Look for the blue labels if you care for genuine and outstanding food products from Valdres. Then you can be certain that these products are produced sustainably after longstanding food traditions.
