The cycling tour from Beitostølen to Haugseter follows a stage of the Mjølkevegen cycling route. Haugseter has a fantastic location along Jotunheimvegen on the northern shore of Lake Vinstre. Here you can enjoy a bite to eat before cycling back to Beitostølen.
Difficulty: moderate, not suitable for children
Distance: approx. 52 km return
Elevation gain: approx. 857 meters
Tour description:
From Beitostølen, you follow road 51 for approx. 13.5 km to the north. The first 3 km to Garli are on the side walk, but from Garli you need to use the main road. Approx. 1 km after Bygdin, exit to the right onto Jotunheimvegen. From there it’s another 12.5 km to Haugseter. The Jotunheimvegen road winds through an open and idyllic, yet impressive mountain terrain. Along the way you pass small mountain farms and pastures with free grazing livestock. If you are very lucky, you might even spot reindeer that graze in the area occasionally. Please behave respectfully and avoid unnecessary disturbances of the animals alongside the road.
Tips:
* Along the way you pass the kiosk Bitibua with sales of local produce and Bygdin Høifieldshotel on the lakeside of Lake Bygdin where you can enjoy a break on the sunny deck with a coffee or a snack.
* By driving to the exit of Jotunheimen and starting the cycling tour there you can turn this trip into a family friendly tour of 25 km return and approx. 210 m elevation gain.
