The municipality of Vang is located furthest north and west in Valdres and is probably the most scenic with its mighty mountain landscape. An exeptional area for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, climbing, fishing and skiing.
Two of Norways 28 stave churches are located here: Øye and Høre. They are both open in the summer season with guiding.
The area of Sandalen is very exotic and worth a visit in the summer. An open summer farm high up in the mountain welcomes visitors 2-3 days a week, serving the traditional sour cream porrige, cured meat and "lapper"which is a type of pancake. This is enjoyed outside with a stunning view of the mountain landscape with animals grazing freely.
The Sørre Hemsing farm consits of tradional houses that date back to the 17th and 19th century, located in a unique cultural landscape. It's open all year for accommodation or a traditional home made meal. Pre-booking.
Easily accessible peak mountains is descriptive of the Tyin-Filefjell area. This is the entrance to Jotunheimen in the north and is a popular area for all types of hiking, but especially the more advanced peak hikes such as Uranostind and Falketind. Other popular activities in this area is cycling, fishing and skiing.
At Tyin-Filefjell, the mountain adventure begins as soon as you step out of you car! The main road E16 passes through the area and it's therefor easy to get here, both by bus and car from eastern or western Norway.
The King's Road across Filefjell
This is probably the most spectacular historic route in Norway. It runs from the narrow and dramatic fjord landscape at Sognefjorden, across the Filefjell mountains and down to the rural villages in Valdres. This is a unique hiking experience for young and old, and some streches of the road are also suitable for cycling.
