AboutWELCOME TO HIKING IN VALDRES
From the hilly woodlands of Begnadalen and Vassfaret in the South, to the snowcapped mountains of Jotunheimen in the North – Valdres can offer some of the most rewarding hiking in FjellNorway. Enjoy the fresh and clean air, stunning views and a healthy form of exercise – and best of all – it’s for free. To make it easier for you to choose among the countless options, we recommend our selection of 30 family friendly walks all over Valdres. They are marked, easily accessible and most of them are suitable for baby carriers. Even the smallest feet can accomplish some of the walks by themselves, while others are a little more demanding.
SUITABLILITY FOR CHILDREN
All hikes in the Topp 30 program are basically child friendly. Although all children are different and motivation is crucial on walking tours, we have tried to apply a rough “child suitability factor” to the walks which indicates a recommended lowest age: Very high = 2−3 yrs, High = 4−5 yrs, Medium = 6−7 yrs and Low = 8 years and older. Most of the suggested walks are suited for child carriers under good weather conditions, yet we don’t recommend it on the most demanding routes, as Mugnetinden, Gråkampen or Ørneflagg for instance, as they may turn out too far and tough.
All walking times are stated for adults without rests and can quickly double up several times when walking with children.
We at Valdres Destinasjon have done our best to secure information given. Anyway, we may have made mistakes, conditions at places can change and bad weather can turn otherwise easy trips into a real challenge. Valdres Destinasjon is not in any way responsible for errors or misleading information in this brochure. You yourself have to judge the suggested walks and your children’s capability, and you’re responsible for turning around in time.
Topographical hiking maps (scale 1:50 000) can be purchased at all tourist offices or in book stores. We are happy to assist you in finding the map you need for your hike. If you wish to explore a number of the hikes in this booklet, you may need several maps.
There are many private toll roads in Valdres. Most toll stations are now automatic. Be prepared that the fees mentioned in this brochure may have increased. We recommend that you bring a sufficient amount of coins.
We wish you very pleasant hiking!
